Marquardt Law Office LLC is interested in speaking with individuals who suffered losses while investing with Ron Jason Ison.  On April 13, 2018, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc. (FINRA) barred the former Buckman, Buckman & Reid, Inc. broker from associating with firms registered with FINRA.  FINRA registers and regulates securities brokers and brokerage firms.

In a Letter of Acceptance, Waiver and Consent (AWC), FINRA stated it barred Ison because he declined to provide sworn testimony during FINRA’s investigation.  FINRA reported it was investigating Ison for “potential unauthorized and unsuitable trading.”

Ron Jason Ison first registered with a FINRA member firm in 1998 and worked as a broker for several firms.  From February 2010 through April 2018, he was registered as a General Securities Representative with Buckman, Buckman & Reid, Inc.  From January 2015 through April 2018, he was also registered as an Investment Adviser Representative with Buckman Advisory Group LLC.

Options to Recover Losses

Rules require brokers to recommend only suitable investment products and strategies to their customers.  This requires brokers know their customers and perform due diligence on investments recommended to customers.  Suitability is based on factors such as a customer’s age, investment objective, risk tolerance, investment experience, and financial status and needs.

Additionally, brokers must also obtain written permission from their customers before exercising discretion to place trades in their accounts.  Failure to do so is a violation commonly referred to as unauthorized trading.

Brokerage firms must reasonably supervise their brokers to ensure they do not recommend unsuitable investments or conduct unauthorized trading.  Customers may pursue claims against firms to recover losses caused by their brokers’ misconduct.
