According to FINRA public records, CoreCap Investments broker Holly Marie Maurer has five disclosed customer disputes. FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc.) registers and regulates brokers and brokerage firms.
Holly Maurer’s customers filed the claims between August 2017 and March 2018. All claims are pending and request damages from $110,000 to $250,000. The customer claims allege Maurer’s misconduct included breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, embezzlement, and participation in and knowledge of theft.
The claims against Mauer relate to her connection with ex-broker Ernest Julius Romer III whom she worked with at CoreCap. Romer was the subject of several regulatory sanctions before FINRA permanently barred him in July 2017 from associating with firms registered with FINRA. In August 2017, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs also permanently revoked Romer’s securities license and fined him $1.5 million. Regulators accused Romer of misconduct that included convincing his customers to sell securities and promising to reinvest the proceeds, which he allegedly used for his own benefit.
Romer currently has thirteen pending customer disputes seeking damages of $45,000 to $590,708. Many of the claims allege theft or fraud and seek damages from CoreCap. Romer’s FINRA records also disclose three previous customer claims that resulted in settlement payments from $57,500 to $110,000, as well as two arbitration awards, respectfully, paying customers $50,000 and $100,000.
Holly Maurer has been employed by CoreCap Investments, Inc. since October 2012. CoreCap also hired Ernest Julius Romer III in October 2012, and in July 2017 it disclosed that it discharged Romer because he failed to report outside business activities and violated firm policies. Maurer and Romer previously worked together at Comerica Securities, Leonard & Company, and L.M. Kohn & Company.
